(Reuters) - Facebook and Google Inc (GOOG.O) are separately considering a tie-up with Skype after the web video conferencing service delayed its initial public offering, two sources with direct knowledge of the discussions told Reuters .

Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg has been involved in internal discussions about buying Skype, according to one of the sources. Another source said Facebook had reached out to the Luxembourg-based company about forming a joint venture.

Google has also held early talks for a joint venture with Skype, the second source said.

 If there was ever a time to resurrect talk about the 'semantic web', it is now.
But don't look to the W3C for inspiration, they are taking too narrow a view.  Read on...


While 'Big Data' has been a hot button for venture capitalists and the trade press, there have been several years of progress in the 'Biggest Data' arena. The Semantic Web meme, with some prodding by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), has morphed into the Linked Data meme. And the notion of building the world's largest database has gained traction and continues to move forward.

The term "digital twin" has been popping up a lot lately.  Serious deja vu .   I recall it being used years ago in engineering, manufacturing and academic circles, but not the popular press.  Not back then.   Curious .   Is there a DT rebirth going on?
